Viral Infections and Salicyclics

We asked people online about their experience of the “Flu Jab” and at the same time a request was sent to our IT research dept. for a response. Although it has taken a little time for them to respond, and that is because, unlike other health charities they do not just cut and paste articles as reference, please read their comment and find the link they have provided which will take those who may be interested in the subject.

Influenza, or The Flu, is an infection by the flu virus of the throat and lungs which is easily spread from person to person through coughing and sneezing. Influenza is a viral infection and there are many strains, or types, some of which can cause more serious health problems than others, particularly amongst people who have a chronic underlying condition. These strains often change in their composition, which means that once a person has had flu, or if they have been vaccinated against flu, they may not be protected against future attacks from different strains.

Some internet information pages that provide information about influenza “The Flu” do not include detailed reference about Reye’s syndrome and the importance of avoiding taking over the counter pain killers which contain “Salicylic’s”

Any product that contains these ingredients, Acetyl Salicylic Acid, Acetylsalicylate, Acetylsalicylic Acid, Aluminium Acetyl Salicylate, Ammonium Salicylate, Amyl Salicylate, Arthropan, Aspirin, Benzyl Salicylate, Butyloctyl Salicylate, Calcium Acetyl Salicylate, Choline Salicylate,Ethyl Salicylate, Lithium Salicylate, Methyl Salicylate, Methylene Disalicylic Acid, Octisalate, Octyl Salicylate, Phenyl Salicylate, Procaine Salicylate, Sal Ethyl Carbonate, Salicylamide, Salicylanilide, Salicylsalicylic Acid, Santalyl Salicylate, Sodium Salicylate, Stoncylate, Strontium Salicylate, Sulfosalicylic Acid, Tridecyl Salicylate, Trolamine Salicylate.

Has the ability to make a person extremely ill, or kill them if that person has a viral infection.
Although this may apply more so children and teenagers, adults are not exempt. Always read the label and check the ingredients of any medication that is either purchased as an “over the counter remedy” or prescribed by a health professional.

It is difficult to obtain a clear picture as to whether the “Flu Jab” will cause difficulties amongst people who have a chronic underlying condition, or weakened immune system, and the number of people we were able to contact to obtain their insight is too small in number to provide a clear picture even though the majority of them had received the “Flu Jab”

This is an interesting subject and one which doesn’t receive enough attention with regard to the possible problems a vaccine may cause amongst people who have weakened immune system. It may be that a clearer picture could be draw by expanding the question into “Therapy Centres” which would provide a larger pool of people enabling more details information and stats thus enabling a better level of conclusions to be drawn.

Gladstone Institute Research

The Gladstone Institutes scientists have defined an underlying process implicated in multiple sclerosis (MS) which may provide a fresh insight into a disease that currently has no known cause or cure. Multiple sclerosis is considered to be an autoimmune disease which causes damage to the myelin sheathing of nerves located in the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). The damage caused presents with symptoms that are very variable, unpredictable and can differ considerable between individuals diagnosed with the same type of the MS.

Disease modifying drugs that are currently prescribed, some which are licensed and others that are prescribed “off label” may delay the progression of the disease for some people who have MS but the benefit they receive is very variable. Some may experience a benefit than others and some may experience no benefit whatsoever. Drug side effects may be experienced and in some cases adverse side effects occur to a point where they may be a risk of death.

The Gladstone institutes scientists studies were in animal models which identified precisely how a protein, which seeps from the blood into the brain, can set off a response that, over time, causes the nerve cell damage that is a key indicator of multiple sclerosis. Although these findings lay the groundwork for the possible development of new therapies to treat MS it should be noted that a mouse model of MS only mimics the condition and whether that translates to humans is another matter, however research has to begin somewhere and mouse models may help provide the confidence for investment into further research and development of clinical trials, as with all research, at this stage, it is “early days”.

Research work such as this is vitally important and uncovering a new or novel target for treating MS may introduce a “fresh pathway” into the direction treatments are currently are taking.

Note - Usually by the time a person has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis damage has already occurred, damage which in some individuals may be substantial. Early diagnosis and recognition of the disease is essential and this is another problem, anecdotal evidence suggests that a substantial period of time passes before symptoms become worrisome enough for an individual experiencing them to refer themselves to a health professional. Then a further period of time may elapse, during which extensive tests and appointments are undertaken, before a confirmed diagnosis of multiple sclerosis is arrived at. Unless this situation is resolved any medicines and other work to establish a good level of quality of life will be more difficult.

Without knowing the underlying cause or causes (triggers) and the origins of the disease it would be impossible to find a cure?

The blood-brain barrier is a protective barrier whose prime role is to keep the environment in the brain as stable as possible by preventing many dangerous substances from entering the brain and protecting the brain from an assortment of potential risks, ranging from infection to elevated levels of hormones in the body. The blood-brain barrier can also hinder some helpful substances, making the administration of medicines to treat brain and central nervous conditions challenging.

Usually, the walls of capillaries in the body are highly permeable, allowing a variety of water-soluble components of blood to pass through them, but in the brain, the capillary walls are very compact and dense, allowing few substances through. This means that when toxins and infectious materials are floating around in the blood, they cannot reach the brain. The brain is a very fragile organ and damage from an infection could be devastating.

Sleep, Pain and the Immune Response

Sleep or disturbed sleep, pain and the immune response are interlinked. There is a relationship between sleep and pain and one begets the other. The effect on the human body can be damaging, for reasons that are not well understood by health professionals lack of sleep or disturbed sleep can cause the immune system to go into “overdrive”.

Exhaustion related stress may increase the levels of white blood cells as part of the immune system inflammatory response. Sleep periods are the longest period of rest during which the human body’s levels of inflammation are at their lowest.

Inflammation is a natural part of the human body’s healing process which forms part of the complex biological response to harmful stimuli such as; pathogens, irritants and damaged cells.

Under normal circumstances the inflammatory process is self-limiting; however continuous inflammation may lead to an inflammatory related disease developing or indeed possibly exacerbating an existing or underlying condition

Pranayama

Prana is said to be a sort of vitality underlying the breath. Yama simply means control. I have used this practice everyday for many years and find it to be very helpful physically, mentally and emotionally.

The healthy person inhales and exhales 21,600 times per day.

It is said most people breathe irregularly.  This is because fears, anxiety, violent emotions, great joy and pleasure, sorrows and nervous excitements all cause irregular breathing.  We are quite often not aware of this.  So by controlling the actions of this Prana in the nerve currents and centres it is said that the movements of the lungs and the respiration are also regulated and controlled

Are you Breathing Well?

The lungs are the organs of respiration, providing oxygen for life and health and expelling waste carbon dioxide a by-product of the human body’s metabolism. The lungs also warm the incoming air and clean it of any dust particles.

There are two lungs: the left one is divided into two lobes and the right one is divided into three lobes. The lungs in total contain approximately 2400km (1500 miles) of airways and 300 to 500 million alveoli. The alveoli have a total surface area about the size of one side of a grass tennis court. If all of the capillaries that surround the alveoli were unwound and laid end to end, they would extend for about 992km (620 miles).

Each fully developed lung weighs about 1.1 kilograms (2.5 pounds), so the entire organ weighs about 2.3 kilograms (5 pounds).

Many people breathe is such a manner that it is detrimental to their health, especially people who have a chronic condition. Breathing Well pdf.

B-12 Deficiency

It may be considered by some health professionals that very few people are vitamin B-12 deficient. This assumption may stem from the fact that vitamin B-12 is produced in the body by a normal, healthy population of bowel bacteria; however it is not clear whether this mode of action is sufficient for proper nutrition.
Also, unlike other water-soluble vitamins, a certain amount of B-12 can be stored in the liver, kidneys and other tissues.

Symptoms of B-12 deficiency often appear so slowly and subtly that they may go unnoticed and the symptoms may be wrongly diagnosed, also blood tests for vitamin B-12 levels may miss early deficiency states
